Germany’s talented Phil Kullmann and his RAW ARTISTIC SOUL collective are back following up their superb “One Cultural Groove EP” with an awe inspiring musical outing titled Kana taken from their forthcoming album "What About Love" showcasing yet more beautiful worldly delights as only they could. Kana is a warming afrobeat affair which also comes as a dub as well as a vocal mix sang in the native Zimbabwian language of Shona featuring the outstanding voice of Laygwan Sharkie, who later teams up with the Metaphysics as Migrant Souls with on the danceable feast that is Bathanga Vibes, inspired by Bathanga Jive which is a traditional of Dance the miners of Zimbabwe. Bathanga Vibes infectious melodious chants topped with a large helping of feel-good brass and earthy beats comes lovingly mixed by Can7 who dishes up a real party for the dancefloor. Flores Para Ti is a latin tinged outing laced with sun drenched guitars performed by the legendary Rafael Cortes, with added delicious jazz vocal melodies and the magical percussive drum flawlessly mixed by SUGAR BEAT.
Phil Kullmann RAW ARTISTIC SOUL army are a 14 strong international collective of singers and quality musicians culled together from all different cultures, sharing a combined focus of producing impeccable music inspired from around the world. Phil Kullmann is a versatile producer, remixer and live artist. Having travelled extensively and influenced by so many various music styles of the world, he developed an inventive production style and tasteful feel for many varied musical forms, from Latin, House, Disco, Afro Beat, Funk, Dub, Reggae and Jazz all of which are prominent in his “One Cultural Groove” project. Programming drums since he was nine years old, Phil learned to mix electronic music and programming with real played instruments. He studied drums in Duesseldorf, Germany and latin percussion in Rotterdam, Netherlands. He also joined private lessons with world-top-percussionist like Bashiri Johnson, Luis Conte, Giovanni Hidalgo and Alfonso Valdes. Playing several instruments percussion, drums, bass, keys and having an enormous knowledge of traditional Afro Cuban, Brazilian and African music, he creates his own vibrant dance beat.
Turkey’s Levent Canseven, the mastermind behind the successful Can 7, is a highly experienced DJ, producer and remixer. With his own recording studio and production company, T.P.A Music, Levent has caused quite a stir over the past few years. With a sound that works perfectly along side label mates Boris Dlugosch and Mousse T, Can7 fits perfectly into Germany’s Peppermint Jam roster. Tracks such as “Windjammer” and “Crusin” made it onto a number of compilations and are typical of Can 7’s style. Levent has also produced remix work for the likes of Moloko, Sonique, Ofra Haza, Randy Crawford, Levitation and Ricky Martin, establishing Can 7’s name on international dance floors.
Straight from Germany’s GOGO Music camp, SUGAR BEAT are producers CrisP and GOGO label honcho Ralf GUM combined with the incredible drum talents of Steffen Meder who jointly focus on classy live music from worldy top broken beat grooves. They deliver a summer sounding flamenco-mix with sexy percussion, live funky bass and lashings of atmospheric acoustic guitar.

After the fantastic "One Cultural Groove EP", RAW ARTISTIC SOUL are back with another chapter of inspiring music. The title track of the EP, "Kana" (available in both vocal and dub versions) features the voice of Laygwan Sharkie who sings in the native Zimbabwian language over a smooth yet powerful afro house beat that is topped with melodic keys and a lovely jazzy flute. "Bathanga vibes" features Migrant Souls aka Lyygwan Sharkie & Metaphysics and is inspired by 'Bathanga Jive', a traditional dance of miners of Zimbabwe. Can7 delivers an uplifting interpretation coming with infectious melodies and an irresistible groove, creating a feel-good anthem. Finally there is "Flores para ti", a latin tinged production featuring a broken-beat styled, percussion loaded groove and jazzy vocal ad-libs together with Rafael Cortes on guitar. With this second outstanding EP, I can't wait to hear the forthcoming album "What about love".

The “Kana EP” brings us more technically proficient but hardly life-changing afro-kissed housey goodness from the German based RAW ARTISTIC SOUL collective. “Kana” sees closely cropped beats, thin synths and a spiritual flute lie under spirit-raising melodious vocals. “Flores Para Ti” as remixed by SUGAR BEAT is a relaxed affair, with lazing percussion, swaying brass and vigorous guitar playing. Can 7 offer teched-out synthetics on their revision of “Bathanga Vibes” whilst the EP is rounded off with a noisy bass led dub of “Kana”.

More cultural vibes from this German label, after the last release from this group I more or less imagined what the style would be however, even if I really did like the first one, this has surpassed it on many fronts. Once again it brings about a ‘happy feeling’ when playing it (something ever more rarer) and it makes you want to turn up the stereo and do a few ‘sherbet’s’ on the floor!!! If you don’t know what that means I will forgive you, roughly 15 years ago, whilst working in a London club, I played a funk track and this rather old white man got onto the floor and did something that can only be described as an African ‘tribal folk dance’ (even if it did have fuck all to do with the track playing)! Afterwards, I said to him that it was a rather unusual ‘style’ and he said to me ‘it’s just one of the sherbet’s that I have been practicing in front of the mirror at home’!!! Nuff said…

This time we can enjoy three different track with some heavy ethno influences and the massive remix treatment of SUGAR BEAT, who did some fine reconstruction of ‘Flores para ti’ and Cologne’s hottest house remixer, Can7, who deliver a deep reconstruction of ‘Bathanga Vibes’ - besides these two excellent remixes, we can enjoy ‘Kana’ as main mix and dub. A truly crossover for advanced house-djs as well as for nujazz/world music lovers, who love outstanding music.

"Kana" is a warming afrobeat track with vocals sang in Zimbabwian language, and a great soulful and jazzy musical arrangement. "Bathanga Vibes" is a little gem remixed by Can 7, groovy and warm at the same time, while "Flores para ti" is a latin jazzy track with a great guitar work performed by the legandary Rafael Cortez and it is remixed by SUGAR BEAT(CrisP & Ralf Gum & Steffen Meder). A dub mix of "Kama" is also included. Quality music lives here!

Once again Ralf GUMs GOGO Music imprint invite RAW ARTISTIC SOUL to bring that organic house sound that is a melting pot, kana is taken from the forthcoming album “What about love” it is a very cool Afristic infused track the vocal mix is a warm and bubbly house tune the spoken vocal is supplied by Laygwan Sharkie in the native Zimbabwian language of Shona and it’s great, Can 7 also deliver a great laidback house affair full of brass a bit more jazzy but drenched in summer and just as effective now personally I opt for the Kana Dub this is were its at for me Laygwan’s vocal in its hypnotic way sifts between some energetic percussion and that spiritual kind of vibe that has to be added by the collective of 14 musicians involved in this project real organic house.

Following on from their "One Cultural Groove EP" Raw Artistic Soul deliver this cosmopolitan set of irresistible rhythms for your pleasure. Drawing from such diverse influences such as Latin and Afro this set of four tracks tickles the senses in many different ways. Though for me it’s the Balearic flavour of SUGAR BEAT's mix of "Flores Para Ti" Feat. Rafael Cortes which makes me wish that winter was well and truly behind us. Sexy percussion, live funky bass and lashings of atmospheric acoustic guitar all make this sound like heaven to me.

Ligesom på "One Cultural Groove" får du på "Kana" serveret en omgang sublim afro og latin-house. Titel nummeret "Kana" er varme afro-beats med fremragende vokal af Laygwan Sharkie, som synger på den zambiske shona dialekt.
Videre finder du det ligeså enestående "Bathanga Vibes", ligeledes med Laygwan Sharkie på vokal. På latin fronten er det, det opløftende dansable "Flores Para Ti", som er ambrosisk latin-jazz-house med excellent guitarspil fra legenden Rafael Cortes.
Sluttelig indeholder EP'en et dub-mix af "Kana". Der er remix bidrag fra Sugabeat og tyrkiske Can 7.
